DAN BLACK
Seldom has an album twisted so thrillingly through so many styles, nor over-flowed with so much melody and feeling. Little wonder that Dan Black is being tipped by the world’s critics and bloggers as one of 2010’s most promising break through artists
((un)) is a richly-detailed record that’s as strikingly innovative and contrasting as it is sonically impressive. But, more importantly, it also contains 11 belting examples of quality modern pop songs. From the gorgeous, electo-acoustic yearn of Sweet Thing to the caustic, break-up grooves of Yours, these are songs which all sound well capable of breathing life, heart and soul into daytime radio. ((un)) is a pop record inspired as much by Black’s love for the “transcendent, emotional wonder” of acts like Nick Drake and Sigur Ros as it is fuelled by his passion for the hip hop production of J Dilla, Flying Lotus and Timbaland. Its songs flit seamlessly from throbbing electro to heart-tearing strings, and from plaintive acoustic guitar strums to shuddering hip hop beats.

EELS
There is no disputing the fact that Mark Oliver Everett, aka E from Eels, has a pretty sweet beard. Ever since he revealed that was the inspiration behind his werewolf-themed album, 'Hombre Lobo,' E's impressive facial mane has become quite the topic of conversation. Rather than let the internet masses start false rumors about it, E sent Spinner a list entitled '10 Things You Didn't Know About the Eels singer's Beard.' Read on and get the full story of his wonderful whiskers.
- It's real.
- He sleeps with it outside the covers, not inside, as previously believed via internet rumors.
- It's as soft as a baby's beard.
- There are six depictions of it in the packaging of the highly acclaimed and excellent new Eels 'Hombre Lobo' CD.
- Occasionally it is accidentally zipped into his jacket, which is painful.
- It has not caught fire while lighting a cigar (as of this writing).
- Padma Lakshmi panicked when she couldn't find the ends of her fingers in it during the shooting of the 'That Look You Give That Guy' video.
- It's at its best on high humidity days.
- He uses a bathing cap draped over his ears to cover it when he doesn't want to get it wet.
- Contrary to popular belief, it drives the ladies wild
